*Finance Manager? - Bournemouth - £35-45,000+
If the idea of creating your own finance function from the ground up and compiling your own role specification (*including your own job title!), pushes your buttons, you’ve probably stumbled upon the blankest of canvases. But this isn’t a start-up. In actual fact, they’ve been trading for the best part of half a century.
Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been assigned by a new client, a highly skilled b2b consultancy offering specialist engineering services to specialist clients. Their business is niche but they’re most certainly at the forefront of what they do, and with offices throughout Europe and North America, their services are in high demand on a global basis.
What makes the opportunity unique? The company have tasked us with finding their finance number one (perhaps that’s the best title). For many years the company has operated a simple in-house accounting function that deals with the transactional day-to-day, with the more complex financial controls outsourced to a third party who has worked in collaboration with the Managing Director to compile management reports, budgets & forecasts, and take care of the statutory. Ultimately, they’d like the function to be brought in house and at the very least, have an experienced individual in place who can take the financial burden of the MDs shoulders.
We’re looking for an experienced accountant, either QBE or part/professionally qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), with a broad understanding of full circle financial control. In the early days of the role, that might mean rolling up your sleeves and squaring up the day-to-day, as well as assisting with all aspects of management and statutory accounting, budgeting, forecasting, VAT, and project costing. But you’ll probably want to quickly begin building a small team so that you can focus on more strategic commercial responsibilities. You’ll be working closely with an experienced senior management team, but you’ll also benefit from a lot of autonomy in shaping this function, so you’ll need to possess great commercial acumen and strong communication skills. The business is already operating with a modern accounting system (Sage Line 200), but the opportunity to design, implement and improve processes will exist from day one.
