Financial accounting roles in the South West are amongst the hardest to fill in our market. Why? Partly because the region doesn't naturally produce large numbers of candidates with strong statutory accounting experience, and partly because the job title itself can be misleading, putting off commercially minded candidates who assume it means heads down, purely analytical work with little broader engagement. Neither of those things are true of this opportunity, and that's exactly why it's worth reading on.

The role itself is broader than the title might suggest. Yes, the statutory and corporate accounting elements are central, but this is far from a narrow technical position. You'll also be involved in management accounts review, working directly with clients, mentoring and developing junior members of the team, and contributing to research into potential new income streams. It's a role with real variety, real responsibility and real scope to grow.

In terms of the ideal candidate, we're focusing on two profiles: experienced financial accountants or those with strong analytical backgrounds looking to develop their career in a high-quality industry environment, and practice based candidates, ideally with a background in audit or corporate finance, who are ready to make the move into industry. A professional qualification is essential, with ACA, ACCA or CIMA all equally appropriate, either recently qualified or with up to four years post qualified experience. Strong technical accounting skills, commercial awareness, experience across various reporting standards and a confident IT aptitude are all essential. Exceptional communication skills and a genuine appetite for career progression will be the clincher.
