Head of Finance

Head of Finance - Full time - Permanent - Ilchester - £60k - £70k per annum

Trial Balance Consulting are pleased to be working with a well established and multi site organisation to recruit a Head of Finance. This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function while playing a central part in shaping business performance.

Reporting to the senior leadership team, this position combines financial control with commercial input, making it well suited to someone who enjoys influencing decision making while maintaining a strong handle on the detail.

This is not a purely reporting role. The successful candidate will be expected to provide insight, challenge, and support across the organisation, working closely with operational stakeholders to drive performance and continuous improvement.

The business operates across multiple locations and continues to evolve, offering a dynamic environment with scope to influence both strategy and the development of the finance function over time.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Acting as a key financial partner to senior leadership, supporting strategic planning and decision making

- Overseeing the production of accurate and timely management accounts and reporting packs

- Maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring compliance across the organisation

- Leading budgeting and forecasting processes, providing clear variance analysis and insight

- Partnering with operational teams to improve performance and profitability

- Developing meaningful KPIs and reporting frameworks

- Leading, mentoring, and developing a small finance team

- Driving improvements in systems, processes, and reporting efficiency

- Managing relationships with external stakeholders including auditors and advisors

- Supporting ongoing development of the finance function as the business evolves

We are seeking a commercially minded finance professional with a strong background in financial control, reporting, and team leadership. This role would suit an experienced Financial Controller ready to step into a broader leadership position, or an existing Head of Finance seeking a role with greater influence and variety.

You will be comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands on level, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non finance stakeholders and challenge where appropriate.

Professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) would be advantageous, though candidates qualified by experience with a strong track record will also be considered.
