Exclusive to Trial Balance Consulting
Head of Finance - Permanent - Part time (2-3 days) - £45k-£50k FTE -
Not every Head of Finance role offers the perfect blend of strategic influence, flexibility, and lifestyle balance. Some lean too heavily on the operational, others too distant from the business to offer real impact. But this one? We think it strikes just the right balance — and if you're a commercially astute finance leader seeking a part-time role with real substance, it might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged by a long-standing client, a globally recognised brand with deep roots in Cornwall, to lead the recruitment of a Head of Finance. This is a part-time position (approx. 2-3 days per week), offered on a permanent basis and to be based at the company’s headquarters in West Cornwall. Days and hours are open to discussion and can be shaped around the successful candidate.
This is a company with a strong identity, a loyal customer base, and a truly international footprint. Combining innovation, sustainability and a passion for performance, they are trusted and loved across the world. The business is led by a forward-thinking senior leadership team and continues to scale steadily, all while remaining grounded in its Cornish heritage.
Reporting directly to the Directors and working alongside a capable Finance Manager, this is a varied and strategically weighted role — perfect for a senior finance professional who thrives on making meaningful impact in a part-time capacity.
You’ll oversee the financial strategy and operations of the business, supporting decision-making at board level while ensuring financial integrity across the group. You’ll provide high-level commercial insight, develop and lead on strategic planning and ensure the finance function supports the wider goals of the business.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
-
Developing and implementing long-term financial strategies
-
Leading on financial modelling, scenario planning and commercial decision-making
-
Managing cash flow, funding and banking relationships (including facilities negotiation)
-
Overseeing accurate, timely management reporting and year-end submissions
-
Supporting international finance operations and ensuring compliance with global standards
-
Advising on corporate tax, including R&D tax credits
-
Monitoring financial risks and maintaining robust internal controls
-
Mentoring and supporting the Finance Manager and wider finance team
Most likely ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified (or equivalent), you'll bring significant experience in a senior finance role with a strategic remit. You’ll have a solid grasp of both UK and international accounting standards, and a track record of partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver commercial insight.
This is a hands-on role, so while you'll be shaping the bigger picture, you'll also need to be comfortable getting into the details — from reviewing management accounts to navigating multi-currency transactions.
A strong knowledge of systems (Sage, Excel, etc.) goes without saying, but just as important will be your communication style, professional curiosity and commercial mindset.
