Financial Controller - East Cornwall - £50,000

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to welcome a new client to our portfolio; a very fast growing, modern and extremely successful hospitality business with a significant holding parent. We have been engaged to source an experienced Financial Controller to perform in this newly created role that reports to a remote Director of Finance and works very closely with the hotel senior management team.
This is a senior, standalone level role within the business and one of pivotal responsibility. The successful candidate will take a lead role in developing financial controls across each to ensure strong accounting benefit and assist in the continued growth of the business. The role is as much finance orientated as it is commercially driven and this will be a broad and interesting opportunity that will span both technical and strategic; a great opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual. It is important to note that the Financial Controller will be hold key responsibility for all aspects of the day to day accounting but will regularly liaise with a centralised finance function outside of the southwest. Key responsibilities of the role to include:
- Working closely with DoF and SMT in devising growth strategies using business planning, forecasting and budget preparations
- Management reporting with full commentary
- Preparation of annual accounts and working with external auditors. Ensuring compliance on all matters relating to VAT, PAYE and tax reporting
- Identify cost saving initiatives
- All aspects of end-to-end accounting procedures to include accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll etc.
We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller, either qualified by experience or professionally qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA. Strong IT skills (particularly Sage) and a sound understanding of all elements of the financial lifecycle for a medium sized business will be essential, as will the ability to lead and develop a small team. Experience in the hospitality/hotel is a prerequisite for this position. Our client will conduct a shortlist equally balanced on technical experience, commercial exposure and a strong aptitude to develop in a senior role. The role will be particularly well suited to a “switched on”, dynamic individual who will use initiative to design, implement and develop system improvements to streamline and improve financial controls.
