Part Time Assistant Accountant - St. Austell or Truro - To: £26,000 Pro Rata

If you’re an experienced Accounts Assistant working as part of a well-established and potentially sizable finance team, you probably find yourself at a tricky crossroad where career decisions are concerned. Do you continue working within a large finance team where support is on hand but prospects are potentially limited? Or do you strive for a position that offers the autonomy and opportunity to help shape a streamlined accounting function? If your greatest fear is driven by failing to attempt something that you think you’d be good at, this role probably represents the opportunity that you’ve been waiting for. 

We’re working with a Cornish hospitality business that now operate over no less than eight locations in the county and turnover the best part of £7M per annum. Their success can be largely put down to hard work, a fantastic brand and some well-considered acquisitions. This, combined with a highly desirable product offering has allowed them to build an incredibly successful business that now employs a significant number of staff. At the heart of their ethos is recognising the importance of their team, both in terms of their happiness and their ongoing development. This means staff turnover is low, and opportunity for a long term, interesting career is high.    

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant who can join their growing team on a part time basis amounting to 3-4 days per week. The role benefits from a high degree of flexibility and this employer will be happy to structure a shorter working day over a 5-day week for example. The role will ideally be located from the client’s base near St. Austell, but could potentially be operated from Truro also. 

Reporting to the company’s Finance Director, the successful candidate will enjoy a broad and varied role that will predominantly entail the use of Xero to coordinate the day to day accounting function: purchase and sales ledger, bank reconciliations and general bookkeeping. Candidates that possess payroll exposure are of particular interest as it is likely that this function will be brought in-house over the coming months. 

What we’re looking for: Whilst great technical experience is obviously a given, team fit is high on the priority list. The business is headed up by a dynamic, energetic and passionate team and that is reflected in their success. We’re seeking a motivated, outgoing candidate; a stickler for efficiency, problem solving and process improvements. Ideally AAT qualified, but potentially QBE, we’re looking for a candidate with good exposure to cloud-based accounting systems (preferably Xero), and ideally with some background in payroll administration.
